Executives of Royal DSM Group said at a press conference on May 14 that they would further expand the global production capacity of Dyneema fibers and laminates. Strong growth in Dyneema nUD, unidirectional laminates and Dyneema branded fibers has officially driven this growth. Details of the expansion will not be disclosed.
Royal DSM Group (DSM) said that due to the market demand for unidirectional laminates (UD) and fibers in the Dyneema brand, it plans to increase the production capacity of strong fibers in Dyneema.
The company will install new UD technology at its plant in Heerlen, in the southeast of the Netherlands and in Greenville, North Carolina, and improve its existing production lines to expand production capacity. Global output of UD will increase by more than 20%.
DSM's Dyneema brand also plans to improve carbon emissions, while DSM's Greenville plant has already begun using 100% renewable electricity.
Dyneema's UD is a composite unidirectional laminate that improves energy absorption and protection. It can be used as a hard bulletproof material and a soft bulletproof material.
