Consistent with the growing demand for material solutions that provide higher strength and durability, Trosar will bring UHMWPE's unique advantages to more manufacturers including soft and hard ballistic UD, ropes, fishing nets and aquaculture. The new material grades demonstrate DSM’s commitment to using science and innovation to provide solutions that are superior to alternatives to traditional markets.
Worldwide, the use of material solutions that extend product life cycles, improve mechanical properties, and reduce overall environmental impact can increasingly provide commercial advantages. In the past, UHMWPE materials such as DSM's Dyneema were used for demanding specific applications, but today, many manufacturers are seeking to use these materials' unique chemical and mechanical properties to achieve a wider range of applications. Trosar will meet this market demand and make the use of UHMWPE easier than ever.
The new material grade will provide various performance grades of fiber and unidirectional laminate (UD). To provide a reliable, high-quality supply, DSM will produce Trosar in the Netherlands, North America, and China to meet consistent quality standards. In view of its high tensile strength and energy absorption properties, this new material is suitable for a series of high-performance applications, such as ropes, nets, slings, and soft and hard bulletproof armor.
