Electronic paper manufacturer E Ink and Plastic Logic collaborate to launch flexible full-color electronic paper Iridis

E Ink, a major electronic paper manufacturer, announced on December 4 that it has cooperated with Plastic Logic, a design and manufacturer of flexible and non-glass electronic paper displays, to jointly launch the world's first advanced color ePaper (Advanced Color ePaper, ACeP). Technical soft full-color electronic paper Iridis.

Iriddis is based on E Ink electronic paper ACeP technology combined with Plastic Logic's OTFT backplane. The official said it will be a new technology for full-color display of new wearable devices.

Iriddis is expected to be used in innovative applications such as smart wear, smart jewelry and smart clothing. It can provide a novel display experience through the characteristics of electronic paper without backlight and the flexibility of flexible substrates.

E Ink said that Plastic Logic's leading organic thin film transistor (OTFT) backplane technology has the characteristics of high resolution, thinness and ultra-low power consumption. Compared with conventional glass substrate TFT backplanes, OTFT backplanes are more sturdy and lighter, so they are suitable for wearable device applications.

According to the official introduction, E Ink's ACeP (Advanced Color ePaper) is a fully reflective electronic paper technology with colored particles, which is currently used in billboards and other products; and Plastic Logic's OTFT (Organic Thin Film Transistor) organic thin film transistor The backplane has the characteristics of high resolution, thinness and power saving, and is stronger than the glass TFT backplane.

Tim Burne, President of Plastic Logic, pointed out that the new Iridis flexible full-color electronic paper-related development evaluation kit will be available at the end of this year, allowing engineers to introduce the application of Iridis flexible full-color electronic paper to the market.
