Enhancing the right to speak in the graphene new material industry China’s graphene research institute presided over the formulation of the first international standard officially released

Recently, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) international standard IEC/TS "Nanomanufacturing-Key Control Characteristics-Part 6-13: Graphene Powder-Oxygen-containing Functional Group Content: Boehm Titration Method" developed by Shanxi Institute of Coal and Chemical Industry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences was officially officially release.

This international standard lasted 4 years from its proposal to its official release. It was first proposed by the Shanxi Institute of Coal and Chemical Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in October 2016 and formally established in August 2017. The standard project team leader is the researcher Chen Chengmeng of the 709 group of Shanxi Coal and Chemical Institute, and Huang Xianhong serves Executive person in charge, project team members include 9 experts from China, Canada, Germany, Italy, and Russia. During the period, the project team carried out a lot of meticulous work in drafting, technical scheme verification, inter-laboratory comparison, expert opinion reply and standard copywriting improvement, and went to Tokyo, Japan, Shenzhen, China, Ottawa, Canada, Busan, South Korea, and Spain. Madrid and Shanghai, China participated in the IEC/TC 113 working group international meeting to report the progress of standardization and promote the smooth release of the standard. At the same time, the Shanxi Institute of Coal Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences also formulated the Chinese version of the standard. This standard is the first in the world to standardize the quantitative characterization of oxygen-containing functional groups and the Boehm titration method, filling the gap in related fields. During the work process, the team fully listened to the opinions of experts from various countries, and took the lead in organizing domestic and foreign institutions to carry out comparison experiments, improving the testing process, reducing the detection limit, increasing the detection efficiency, and greatly improving the repeatability, reproducibility and universality of the method.

The formulation of this international standard has enhanced China's right to speak in the field of new graphene materials. On the one hand, when the Boehm titration method is used in various countries, in the absence of local standards, it is necessary to cite IEC/TS62607-6-13, and determine according to the standard method. The technical requirements in the relevant trade product standards need to be based on IEC/TS62607- 6-13 The measurement results are specified. On the other hand, in the process of participating in international conferences, the staff of the Institute of Coal Chemistry, as expert members, fully expressed their opinions on other international standards in the graphene field, and exchanged and discussed with experts from various countries, which is conducive to the international standard system to fully consider China's graphene industry. At the same time, Chinese graphene experts can learn about the development of international graphene standards in the first time, follow up in time, and influence international progress in a timely manner. It is reported that the above-mentioned standards can also be applied to activated carbon, carbon black, carbon nanotubes, graphite and carbon fiber and other carbon materials, which will help improve the carbon material testing standard system, serve the high-quality development of China`s carbon material industry, and help lead the 14th The healthy and steady development of "new materials" in this emerging industry is of great significance.
