Evonik announces release of PA12 powder for food

Evonik announced that they will release an FDA-approved PA12 powder for use in the food sector, making it possible to 3D print tableware, cups, plates and containers.

In the past two years, Evonik is extending its business into the field of 3D printing, and has established a special 3D printing material brand VESTOSINT. Under this brand, the company has so far developed a number of PA12-based 3D printed powder materials. In order to meet the rising demand for 3D printing materials, Evonik has previously disclosed that it will increase the production energy of VESTOSINT products by about 50%, and the new production line is expected to start operation at the end of 2017.

It is reported that the 3D printing material developed by Evonik for HP's open platform program is VESTOSINT 3D Z2773. In addition to the outstanding mechanical properties of this PA 12-based powder material, its biggest selling point is that it has received FDA approval for food contact-this means that HP 3D printer users can use it to print those food contact Objects, such as parts of food production equipment, tableware, etc.
