Evonik, the world’s leading supplier of implantable medical device biomaterials, announced a partnership with German medical textile materials leader ITV Denkendorf Produktservice (ITVP) to expand the implantable biomaterials product portfolio

Evonik, the world's leading supplier of implantable medical device biomaterials, announced the signing of an exclusive global licensing agreement with ITV Denkendorf Produktservice (ITVP), a German medical textile materials R & D and manufacturing leader.

According to the agreement, Evonik will launch a new polymer platform based on glycolide for monofilament and multifilament production, further expanding its market-leading RESOMER® implant-grade biodegradable polylactic acid product portfolio. The platform aims to develop fast-degradable high-performance fabric-based implantable products, such as sutures, gauze, tape, yarn, sheets, stents, and vessel closures.

What are the advantages of the new polymer platform?

The world's largest and most diverse biomaterial product portfolio

A series of colorless or purple homopolymer (PGA), copolymer (PGLA) and block copolymer (PGA-CL and PGA-TMC) specifications will be added to the standard RESOMER® product catalog.

Together with other recently launched innovative biomaterials, including PLA-PEG copolymers, wire materials for 3D printing technology and surface modification technology, the RESOMER® product portfolio has now become the world ’s largest and most diverse biomaterials product portfolio , Can be widely used in plastic surgery, vascular and wound suture and other fields.

Accurate customization based on application needs

The polymer products developed by the platform can be precisely customized in terms of mechanical properties (tensile strength, low bending stiffness or elasticity) and degradation rate (from less than one month to two months or more) to meet the target application requirements. In addition, other customization options can be provided according to customer requirements.

1 + 1> 2 strength cooperation

Evonik will use its extensive technical capabilities in polymer processing and advanced application laboratories in the United States, Germany and China, as well as ITVP's expertise to support customers in the development, analysis and testing of textile-based products, and scale-up .

"By expanding the polymer product portfolio for textile-based medical devices, Evonik has further consolidated its position as the global partner of choice for medical device companies."

——Dr. Jean-Luc Herbeaux, the head of Evonik's medical and health business line, said.

"The agreement will use Evonik and ITVP's strength and application expertise in polymer design and synthesis to provide medical device companies with high-quality functional biomaterials to improve the quality and performance of their fabric-based implantable medical devices." ITVP General Manager Dr. Sven Oberhoffner said: "We look forward to establishing a long-term partnership with Win to meet the needs of emerging customers for implantable devices in wound closure and soft tissue applications."
