Evonik VESTAPE® thermoplastic unidirectional belt passed DNV GL flexible composite pipe industry certification

In February 2020, Airborne Oil & Gas (hereinafter referred to as AOG) released the first full carbon fiber-based material qualification certificate that passed the DNV GL ST-F119 TCP (thermoplastic composite pipe) industry quality standard.

This time, the VESTAPE® one-way belt product of Evonik Industries Group was certified. This is a single item with Evonik VESTAMID® PA12 as the matrix and carbon fiber as the reinforcing material. It has low water absorption and excellent mechanical properties, which can effectively resist external forces. After this certification, the product will be able to serve the crude oil mining industry with a service temperature of up to 80 ° C.

Evonik Industries Group is the world's leading supplier of thermoplastic materials. With the goal of serving the high-end TCP industry, it has led the development and certification of the carbon fiber-PA12 unidirectional belt. ability.

Vitor Lavini, head of Evonik ’s industrial and oil and gas business, said: “For Evonik, we are very happy to be awarded the DNV GL certification. We have long been committed to the production and onshore production of subsea flexible pipelines. Natural gas infrastructure construction provides PA12. Based on this, we have sufficient technical strength to provide VESTAPE® carbon fiber unidirectional belts for AOG high-performance TCP products.

It is understood that the carbon fiber required for the product is provided by a manufacturer well-known in the aerospace and automotive industries. After the carbon fiber was shipped to Marl, Germany, it jointly produced high-quality single item belts with Evonik's special PA12 material, and then transferred to the AOG Dutch factory to process it into a TCP composite flexible pipe product. The entire production process has been monitored and certified by DNV GL.

Martin Strande, head of the DNV GL pipeline / materials / inspection department, added: "Thermoplastic composite pipeline is gradually being adopted by the oil and gas industry as a new solution. Its intervention will greatly reduce the cost of oil and gas projects throughout the life cycle. The ST-F119 standard sets the product safety threshold for the offshore application of thermoplastic composite pipelines. Evonik Industries has also become one of the first companies to obtain relevant qualification certificates with its VESTAPE® carbon fiber unidirectional belt.

It is said that TCP has introduced a series of new technologies for traditional pipeline production, with many advantages such as good safety performance and high cost performance. It has a good market prospect in the subsea pipeline industry, and its development has gradually become an upward trend.

Henk de Boer, Chief Technology Officer of AOG, said: "We are proud of the achievements of the company's TCP products and sincerely thank Evonik Industries Group and DNV GL classification society for their support. We will continue to work to broaden the product line for The industry provides pipeline products with better safety performance, which brings greater success to the company. "
