First Graphene (FGR) and Steel Blue have signed an exclusive supply agreement for the supply of PureGRAPH10 to apply graphene to TPU materials

In August 2019, First Graphene announced that it was able to successfully apply PureGRAPH to thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU).

Previously, the ability to successfully disperse graphene into the TPU masterbatch had significant limitations, but the reason is currently uncertain.

First Graphene conducted extensive research and came up with a manufacturing method to overcome this problem.

Although existing TPUs have been processed with high erosion resistance and tensile strength, the incorporation of PureGRAPH improves mechanical properties while providing additional benefits in terms of heat transfer and chemical resistance.

PureGRAPH is a graphene powder that can be used in the tonnage range of 20, 10 and 5 microns.

"PureGRAPH additives are a key enabler to elevate elastomers, composites, coatings and concrete materials to a new level, and we will continue to look for new applications and markets where graphene can add value," said Craig McGuckin, managing director of First graphene.

These products are high-performance additives with high quality and ease of use.

Steel Blue plans to release future work boots with graphene components (including TPU soles).

This will make it possible to provide new design solutions and improve the manufacturing process and the comfort of the boots.

The CEO of Steel Blue Garry Johnson said: "Steel Blue is committed to developing innovative solutions for our customers. We are excited about the products developed with First Graphene."

In November 2019, prototype testing was conducted on Viclab, one of Australia's leading certified independent mechanical testing services.

The boots were tested for impact resistance, tear strength, sole crack resistance, slip resistance and erosion.

By adding PureGRAPH additives to the sole, improved tear strength and erosion resistance have been measured.

Steel Blue continues to use Viclab to continuously evaluate the results to test different applications and processes.

After passing the successful test, Steel Blue will seek to integrate PureGRAPH into existing and future boot models.
