FlexEnable announces acquisition of Merck’s organic thin-film transistor/OTFT material portfolio to accelerate commercialization of large-area flexible display applications

FlexEnable is a leader in the development and industrialization of flexible organic electronic products. It has acquired Merck ’s first-class high-performance organic thin-film transistor (OTFT) material portfolio, including revolutionary and patented organic semiconductors and dielectrics. This transaction makes FlexEnable the first to provide display manufacturers with both OTFT materials proven to have higher performance than amorphous silicon, as well as an industrially proven complete set of flexible organic liquid crystal displays (OLCDs) of any size Manufacturing process company. With this material setting and manufacturing intellectual property rights, flat panel display companies can produce low-cost, area-scalable flexible displays, sensors and devices for mass market applications, such as consumer electronics, automotive, retail and other areas.

The acquisition of Merck ’s OTFT materials (now renamed FlexEnable FlexiOM ™), including more than 300 patents involving materials, processes and equipment, will bring the total number of FlexEnable organic electronic patents to more than 1,000. The FlexiOM ™ material and FlexEnable's proprietary low-temperature process allow glass TFT backplanes to be replaced by flexible OTFT backplanes, making thin, lightweight, shatterproof, and flexible devices possible. The transaction includes all pioneering intellectual property and proprietary technology developed by Merck in the past 20 years, as well as the necessary material supply chain. FlexEnable is currently hiring core technical personnel responsible for material development, and intends to continue to expand and broaden the material platform in the future.

"In industries such as consumer electronics and automotive, flexible displays are the catalyst for the next-generation experience and products," said Chuck Milligan, CEO of FlexEnable. "For many years, we have been working closely with Merck ’s organic materials business team. We have seen a unique synergy with our expertise here, which puts us in a leading position in replacing flat glass displays. At present, this is a Potential market worth US $ 100 billion. Adding FlexiOM ™ materials to the processes of our leading peers will greatly increase our revenue-generating opportunities and further enhance our business model, while providing a fast path for display manufacturers to make Many applications requiring large-area flexible displays have been commercialized. "

"We are very pleased to be able to provide our customers with the most powerful organic electronic materials in the world, and we also welcome new team members from Merck. We are also very pleased to welcome those who need to apply these high-performance organic materials to a wide range of fields beyond displays New customer. "Chuck Milligan added.

Adding FlexiOM ™ OTFT materials to the FlexEnable product portfolio will lower the barriers to entry for flexible OLCD production in existing LCD factories. For the first time, display manufacturers and original equipment manufacturers can obtain a complete set of solutions to obtain technical process and necessary material licenses to accelerate the adoption of OLCD on existing flat panel display production lines with minimal capital expenditure, while still using their existing LCD supply The rest of the chain.

FlexEnable's FlexiOM ™ OTFT material can be immediately supplied to customers in any organic electronic application field worldwide. (Source: Media OutReach)
