Fluence and Sembcorp cooperate to develop battery energy storage projects

The 60MW energy storage system developed by Fluence and Sembcorp Energy UK has been launched and is known as one of the largest such transactions in Europe.

The entire plan will be completed in the fourth quarter of 2020. The first three stops are Asfordby in Leicestershire, Ellesmere Port and Runcorn in Cheshire, they were in September and 10 this year Going online in the month, the license has been approved and tested successfully.

This "ultra-high-speed" battery can respond quickly under high voltage and supply power within a few milliseconds. The person in charge of the project said that the battery's flexibility is very strong, which can help avoid the occurrence of power outages and other events on August 9, which proves that the United Kingdom "urgently" needs a strong and flexible energy storage system.

The person in charge said that the battery energy storage system during the event can effectively help mitigate the negative effects of some unexpected events. The new battery will provide the British grid with the "required" flexible electricity and increase the use of more renewable energy.

Stephen Coughlin, CEO of Fluence, said: "The first three projects-and the next few projects-will provide a deep, instantaneously flexible and reliable battery energy storage system, which will achieve the UK's decarbonization goal. "

In June 2018, Fluence became the technology supplier for these projects for the first time. The first three projects were originally planned to be completed in the winter of 2018/19. Sembcorp did not mention the reasons for the delay in the completion of the project, but a spokesperson said the projects were "still not yet due for delivery."

The portfolio was originally developed by UK Power Reserves. After acquiring Sembcorp Energy UK in 2018, the company merged with Sembcorp Utilities UK last month to form Sembcorp Energy UK.

Relevant person in charge of Sembcorp Energy said: "Our cooperation with Fluence has evolved from energy storage to creating one of the world's largest distributed investment portfolios in a short period of time."

"The energy market is constantly changing, and the partnership we have established with Fluence will help meet the rapidly growing needs of the UK."
