Freudenberg launches innovative high-performance Colback® non-woven fabrics for the Chinese building waterproof material market

December 17, 2020. Over the past few decades, China's construction market has been growing rapidly in the areas of infrastructure, commercial and residential construction. At the same time, the long-standing water leakage problem in domestic buildings has caused widespread concern, and the demand for waterproofing is expected to continue to grow in the next few years. Low & Bonar, a global professional technical textile company, officially became a member of the Freudenberg High Performance Materials Group this year. In the Chinese market, LOW & BONAR and local customers jointly develop innovative waterproof solutions to meet this challenge demand.

Traditional prefabricated waterproofing solutions cannot solve the leakage problem of concrete buildings once and for all. Traditional prefabricated coils cannot fully adhere to the concrete surface and form a seal bond with it, especially at corners and small parts of complex concrete structures, where water seepage often occurs at the joints of the prefabricated coils. In order to solve this problem, LOW & BONAR has worked closely with China's well-known manufacturer of concrete building waterproofing materials-Xi Niu Waterproof Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Xi Niu). Through four years of research and development, we have launched a new ready-made waterproof system solution for the Chinese building waterproofing market.

The new waterproof system includes Colback® high-performance non-woven fabric base from LOW & BONAR, West cowhide CPS ready-made waterproof film compound (graded rubber) and ready-made membrane machine. The sealed waterproof layer made by this can be completely bonded to the concrete surface, and can effectively prevent cracking and water channeling through the creep reaction of the polymer. The existing production method can form an integrated sealing and waterproof layer, without any joints, and fully fit the concrete surface of the complex structure. The mechanized operation of the existing coil machine can ensure consistent installation quality.

Colback® high-performance non-woven fabric is a key component of the waterproof system. As a two-component spunbond non-woven fabric, Colback® can be used as a reinforcing base fabric to directly coat rubber on its surface. Colback®'s open structure can ensure rapid saturation, so it is very suitable for liquid coatings. Colback®high-performance non-woven fabrics are light and ultra-thin, but at the same time have high strength and high elongation, which can effectively resist cracking strain while saving paint, ensuring stable performance of the waterproof layer and durable waterproofing. The unique Colback® technology enables non-woven fabrics to be optimized and customized according to requirements to adapt to various rubbers or coatings to meet strict product performance requirements. In order to maximize the performance, West cowhide and Lubbona have worked closely to develop a tire base fabric that best matches the graded rubber of West cowhide, and further improves the extensibility of the fabric to prevent cracking more effectively.

Since its listing, West cowhide now-made waterproof membranes have been fully equipped and have been repeatedly recognized by the country and the industry. The supporting group standard was rated as the excellent standard of the China Engineering Construction Standardization Association in 2019, and the applied technical regulations were assessed as reaching the international leading level by the review group of the China Engineering Construction Standardization Association. At press conferences held across the country, this innovative ready-made coil system has been well received by industry experts and scholars. The project of "Currently made water-based rubber polymer compound and reinforced anti-cracking tire-based composite waterproof system" was also listed as a national construction industry scientific and technological achievement promotion project in 2019. At present, this product is used in many large-scale structural roofs and roof renovation projects across the country, and has achieved a waterproof effect with full adhesion and sealing without edges, and a good response.
