FRX and Yoo-Point collaborate to develop flame retardant emulsions for polyurethane

FRX Polymers is a polymer halogen-free flame retardant solution provider. It has signed a joint development agreement with Shanghai Yoo-Point.

According to a press release from Yoo-Point, the agreement covers the production of an aqueous emulsion containing FRX's Nofia phosphonate halogen-free flame retardant. The emulsion is suitable for polyurethane coatings and low-density flexible polyurethane foams.

Yoo-Point said that under the joint development agreement, Yoo-Point will sell and sell the new Nofia FR emulsion to Chinese customers. FRX will be responsible for marketing and commercialization outside of China.

"This joint development agreement opens up many new market opportunities for Nofia flame retardants and has a global impact," Marx Lebel, president and CEO of FRX, said in a statement.

Yoo-Point said that water-based emulsions are targeted at low-density polyurethane foam applications, such as automotive canopies and polyurethane coatings for flame-resistant clothing, rain gear, and synthetic leather. Because the particle size of the emulsion is less than 400 nanometers, it has stability and flame retardancy, and also has low volatile organic components, which meets strict automotive interior specifications.

NoFIAS FRS enables foam products to meet various automotive fire safety standards, as well as new overall VOC and atomization standards from global car manufacturers and regional air quality regulations. This includes the new Chinese mandatory standard GB / T 27630-201X.

Lebel claims that the emulsion system can be added to other resins compatible with Nofia FRs.
