Fuji Economics: PAN-based carbon fiber composites (thermoplastic and thermosetting carbon fiber reinforced plastics), global market size to 580 billion yen in 2030

Fuji Economics announced the results of its global market survey of PAN-based carbon fiber composites (thermoplastic and thermoset carbon fiber reinforced plastics). PAN-based carbon fiber composites have been well-received for their light weight and high strength, and are widely used in different industrial fields, mainly aircraft and automobiles. According to Fuji Economic Survey statistics, the global market size of PAN-based carbon fiber composite materials in 2018 was 1248.4 billion yen (approximately RMB 86.125325 billion yuan). It is predicted that the global market size in 2030 will be 2.6 times that of 2017. It reached 358 billion yen (approximately RMB 21,574 million).

Of the global market for CFRP (carbon fiber reinforced thermosetting composites), according to Fuji Economic Survey statistics, the global market size of CFRP in 2018 was 136.5 billion yen (approximately RMB 8.234568 trillion), and the global market in 2030 is forecast. The scale will reach 3.0 trillion 2018 billion yen (approximately RMB 193 billion 68.54 million yuan). Application fields include aircraft, wind power blades, automobiles, sports / leisure and other uses, especially the field of wind power blades is the largest growth area of demand. In the field of wind power blades, large-scale blades of 5MW to 10MW wind turbines in ongoing offshore wind power projects in Europe, China and other countries and regions will effectively reduce the weight of CFRP materials, and the future application of CFRP materials in this field can be expected .

In terms of automotive applications, some analysts pointed out that automobile manufacturers are promoting research and development of CFRP application technologies. At present, with the development and utilization of CFRP by European manufacturers, government policy support, and the growing demand for weight reduction in the electric vehicle market, Chinese automotive manufacturers are expected to increase their use of CFRP materials.

In aircraft applications, the planned production system will keep the market demand for CFRP materials growing steadily. Around 2025, Airbus and Boeing's improved models of high-composite material usage will gradually begin production and delivery, and orders will continue to increase, with the demand for CFRP materials also increasing.

With the expansion of the FCV (fuel cell vehicle) and CNG (compressed natural gas vehicle) markets, the market for pressure vessels such as hydrogen cylinders has also grown.

In the field of architectural / civil engineering applications, the reinforcement of buildings and highway bridges in China will also contribute to the growth of CFRP materials.

CFRTP (carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic composite) applications are divided into two categories: short / long fiber reinforced composites and continuous fiber reinforced composites. With the popularization of auto-driving functions in the future, short / long fiber-reinforced composite materials are expected to be used in automotive sensor cameras, electromagnetic wave shields and other components, and demand is expected to increase. Although continuous fiber processing products are currently only used in the aircraft sector, it is expected that between 2025 and 2030, it will be involved in automotive frame / structural component applications, and demand will increase significantly.
