German Chancellor Merkel launches new Webster China plant

During the two-day trip to China, German Chancellor Angela Merkel came to Wuhan with a German high-level business delegation on September 7 and visited a new factory in the world-renowned automotive parts manufacturer Webast Wuhan. At this Webast's largest plant, Merkel attended the launching ceremony of automotive sunroofs, high-voltage electric heaters, and charging piles together with Wuhan Mayor Zhou Xianwang and Dr. Ingman, Chairman of the Webster Group.

After the opening ceremony of the new factory, the German Chancellor and his party paid a visit to the factory to learn about Webast's product development, production process and development planning. Dr. Ingman said: "For many years, Webast has maintained the market leading position in automotive sunroofs in China and worldwide. Due to the rapid growth of business, the capacity of the original factory in Wuhan reached its limit, and we invested 5,000 Million Euro new plant to support further business development. This is also the first of ten Webbest China factories to manufacture automotive sunroofs and new energy vehicle solution products. We will seize the opportunity to become the Chinese automotive industry and Wuhan Automotive Industry innovation system partners. "

Webast's largest factory in the world

Since 2014, Webast has produced supporting sunroof products for independent and joint-venture vehicle manufacturers in Wuhan, an industrial city. After relocating the previously rented plant to the new plant, Webast's production capacity in Wuhan has tripled. This new factory has a construction area of ​​41,000 square meters and will be the world's largest production base for Webast. It will mainly produce automotive sunroofs, electric heaters and charging solution products. The annual production capacity of automotive sunroofs will reach 2 million units, and the annual production capacity of electric heaters will be 1.2 million. Sets, 600,000 sets of charging piles.

Webast launched a complete vehicle supporting business in the Chinese market in 2001. Since then, the Chinese market has become the world's largest market. Sales in 2018 amounted to 1.3 billion euros. Webast currently has 10 factories in China with approximately 4,600 employees. It mainly produces automotive sunroof products, and the proportion of large-scale panoramic sunroofs is increasing year by year. Webast's 11th plant is located in Jiaxing, and trial production is scheduled to begin by the end of the year. In addition to producing automotive sunroofs, the new Jiaxing plant will also develop, test, and produce power battery packs for the Chinese market.
