Germany’s ThyssenKrupp plans to introduce additive manufacturing technology into submarine construction, and provide 3D printed parts and austenitic stainless steel parts processing services

Germany's ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems has announced that it will integrate additive manufacturing parts that have passed the acceptance test certification into the company's submarines and other ships.

At present, the company's partner, ThyssenKrupp Additive Manufacturing Technology Center, has been approved by the Norwegian Lloyd's Register (DNV GL) to provide processing services for 3D printed parts and austenitic stainless steel parts. And ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems is working with the ThyssenKrupp Additive Manufacturing Technology Center to develop detailed procedures for using additive manufacturing technology in submarine construction.

The chief operating officer of ThyssenKrupp Maritime Systems said that there were no relevant procedures and processes in the world, but through their efforts with the ThyssenKrupp Additive Manufacturing Technology Center, these procedures and processes have been developed. These certified additive manufacturing components "meet our 'high expectations' with our customers."
