GKN Powder Metallurgy partners with HP to use new adhesive spray technology to make metal parts for cars

Recently, GKN Powder Metallurgy and Hewlett-Packard established a strategic partnership to use its new adhesive spray technology to manufacture metal parts for automobiles.

The company will be the first to use HP Metal Jet in its factories to produce functional metal parts for automotive companies including Volkswagen and Wilo to facilitate the industrialization of additive manufacturing (AM).

According to GKN, compared to other 3D printing methods, the new printer can increase user productivity by 50 times and cost almost half of other adhesive spray systems.

Peter Oberparleiter, CEO of GKN Powder Metallurgy, said, "Our vision for additive manufacturing in the enterprise is not just prototypes and low-volume production, but also mass production. We want to see that every digital company will have cutting-edge 3D Printers. As we work with HP, we want our customers to continue to present new challenges to break down design barriers and accelerate the adoption of adhesive spray technology. "

GKN said that in the first half of 2019, customers will be able to obtain large quantities of industrial-grade parts. GKN Powder Metallurgy will be the only partner to use HP Metal Jet in the automotive and industrial markets until the machine becomes popular in 2020.
