Global special alumina supplier Almatis India plate corundum project is about to start production

On July 26, Almatis, a global specialty alumina supplier, said that its plate-shaped corundum expansion project in the Falta Special Economic Zone (Falta), Kolkata, India is about to start production.

The Falta Special Economic Zone has the characteristics of low entry barriers, low operating costs, a good industrial foundation, and rapid growth in exports and domestic sales. The investment environment is friendly. Based on Kolkata, India's third largest city, it is about 55 kilometers from the center of Kolkata and about 45 kilometers from the southern suburbs. With a well-developed road network including national roads, nearby Kolkata and Haldia ports, and Dumdum International Airport, it is very convenient for external transportation and communication.

At the end of August last year, Almatis announced its decision to expand production at Falta's alumina plant. Facing India's fast-growing markets for refractories, ceramics and polishing, the company's production capacity in 1995 was no longer sufficient. The Falta plant currently offers a variety of products including plate corundum, calcined alumina, calcium aluminate cement, activated alumina and spinel.

Remarks

Plate-shaped corundum is a kind of sintered corundum, which has a large crystal and a well-developed α-Al2O3 crystal structure. The content of Al2O3 is more than 99%. High purity, good volume stability, and minimal reburning shrinkage. The refractory or castable used for production has good thermal shock stability and flexural strength after high temperature treatment, but the price is higher than other aluminas. Well-known production companies include Almatis Aluminum, Zhejiang ZL…
