Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Metal New Materials Industry Alliance was established

The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Metal New Materials Industry Alliance, which was initiated by the Guangzhou Metal Society, was unveiled and established in Guangzhou. The Chinese Metal Society and China Iron and Steel Industry Association sent congratulatory letters.

Zhou Kesong and Mao Xinping, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Wu Kaiming, a foreign academician of the Russian Academy of Engineering, Chen Shuang, secretary of the Party Group of the Guangzhou Association for Science and Technology, Wu Yechun, vice president of South China University of Technology, and Huang Mingxin, associate professor of the University of Hong Kong, attended the ceremony.

At the first board meeting of the alliance, Li Liejun, a professor at South China University of Technology and chairman of the Guangzhou Metals Society, served as the first chairman of the alliance.

Mao Xinping said that metal materials are the dominant structural materials and important functional materials today. They have a bearing on the national economy and the people's livelihood, and it is imperative to develop new metal materials. According to statistics, Guangdong's total industrial output value in 2017 exceeded 13 trillion yuan, of which the total output value of metal materials and products reached 1202.5 billion yuan, accounting for about 10%.

According to Li Liejun, the alliance was initiated by the Guangzhou Metal Society, and it was established in conjunction with more than 80 units including the well-known universities, research institutes, enterprises, social organizations, testing and investment institutions in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Its purpose is to gather together, integrate resources, serve the regional economy, and promote the development of the new metal materials industry. The alliance hired Academician Zhou Kesong, Academician Mao Xinping, Academician Wu Kaiming, Former President of South China University of Technology Liu Zhengyi, and Former Chairman of Guangdong Material Research Society Liang Zhenfeng as its consultants. By integrating resources of universities, research institutes, enterprises, and materials associations in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, the alliance follows the combination of production, learning, and research, and independently innovates, and actively cultivates new metal materials with competitive advantages in domestic and foreign markets.
