Hexagon Purus debuts Hydrogen high-pressure Type 4 carbon fiber winding cylinders in China

At the 4th China International Import Expo, Hydrogen high-pressure Type 4 cylinders manufacturer Hexagon Purus exhibited its Hydrogen high-pressure Type 4 cylinders for the first time.


On November 7, Urs Laeuppi, CEO of Hexagon Purus China and Southeast Asia, said that China’s hydrogen energy market has great potential. “We have full confidence in China`s hydrogen energy market.” Hexagon Purus is a subsidiary of Hexagon Group and headquartered. Located in Norway, it is famous for its type IV composite material high-pressure hydrogen storage technology, and realizes the application of this technology in the field of hydrogen energy industry transportation and storage. This year is the first year that Hexagon Purus has officially entered the Chinese market, and it is also the first time Hexagon Purus has appeared at the CIIE.

Urs Laeuppi introduced that the Hydrogen high-pressure Type 4 cylinders exhibited at the CIIE for the first time are the latest generation of high-pressure gaseous hydrogen storage vessels. The applications include automobiles, storage and transportation, ships, railways, aerospace, and ground storage.


The types of vehicle-mounted hydrogen storage bottles include pure steel metal (type I bottle), steel liner filament winding (type II bottle), aluminum liner filament winding (type III bottle) and plastic liner filament winding (type IV bottle) Etc. Different types of hydrogen storage bottles have different working pressure, hydrogen storage density, and cost.

Among them, Hydrogen high-pressure Type 4 cylinders are lighter in weight, longer cycle life, and lower life cycle costs. The industry generally believes that it will be a transformative technology that promotes the large-scale application and popularization of fuel cell vehicles. Taking the cycle life as an example, Urs Laeuppi said that compared to Type I, Type II and Type III cylinders, Hydrogen high-pressure Type 4 cylinders have "approximately 25% longer life, so they will reduce product costs."

Hexagon Purus manufactures type IV hydrogen storage bottles in Europe, North America, Latin America, South Korea, India and other markets, and provides vehicle fuel systems and hydrogen supply system solutions. Urs Laeuppi introduced that so far, more than 600,000 Hydrogen high-pressure Type 4 cylinders manufactured by Hexagon Purus have been safely operated all over the world, which also makes Hexagon Purus the manufacturer with the largest number of hydrogen storage bottles in use in the world. For example, Hexagon Purus supplies 700 bar storage tanks for Mercedes GLC-FCELL, and the world's first regional train powered by hydrogen fuel uses Hexagon Purus' Hydrogen high-pressure Type 4 cylinders.
