High-energy lithium metal rechargeable battery developer Sion Power launches Licerion EV technology to fully charge lithium metal batteries in 15 minutes

Sion Power, a developer of high-energy lithium metal rechargeable batteries, said that its Licerion electric vehicle (EV) technology has been expanded to use commercial designs with energy capacities up to 420 Wh / kg and 700 Wh / L. This technology is specifically designed for electric vehicle applications, focusing on achieving high energy density, increasing cycle life, and achieving fast charging capabilities.

Sion Power tested its 1.8Ah battery cell by optimizing its protected lithium anode (PLA) and advanced electrolyte formulation. After 800 deep discharge cycles, the battery still maintained 70% capacity. After fully demonstrating that the battery was fully charged with 100% electricity in 15 minutes, the charging efficiency reached 99.7%.

Sion Power plans to license its Licerion EV technology for the automotive sector, as well as specific markets, such as electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft (eVTOL) and driverless cars.

Sion, which initially focused on lithium-sulfur battery technology, shifted its strategy and shifted its focus to lithium metal batteries. The company has developed a patented technology-Protected Lithium Anode (PLA), which is a key component of lithium-ion batteries and can store a lot of energy that other battery technologies cannot.

Licerion PLA uses a thin and chemically stable ceramic barrier to reduce parasitic reactions, minimize the weight of the battery, and maximize the energy of the battery, extend its cycle life, and enhance its safety. In addition, additives in the company's proprietary electrolyte system can further improve battery safety and extend the battery's cycle life.
