High performance impact resistant elastomer material applied to Huawei folding screen phone Mate X3 Hay:F01SCWJ

Folding screen phones are highly popular because they meet the dual needs of various users for a large screen experience and one-handed portable operation, allowing for free switching between phones and tablets, truly achieving multi-purpose use in one device.

However, with the continuous expansion of the market, the problems with foldable screen phones are becoming increasingly prominent. Among them, the most serious is that the foldable inner screen is prone to falling or damage from external objects, resulting in screen damage and inability to display normally. Moreover, the cost of replacing the foldable inner screen is high, becoming one of the main bottlenecks in the popularization of foldable mobile phones. How to solve the long-standing problem that has troubled consumers and manufacturers has become a technical challenge that urgently needs to be overcome in the global field of flexible electronics.

The SCWJ R&D team has been dedicated to the field of polymer material research for more than ten years, mainly researching the high-performance, functionalization, self-healing, and related theoretical issues of elastic materials. Through long-term research and development accumulation, we overcame difficulties amidst layers of technological barriers, and ultimately successfully developed and designed a new type of impact resistant elastomer material with core competitiveness and global leading level, greatly improving the resistance to external force impact of the folding phone screen.

At present, commercial impact materials at home and abroad are mainly based on the polyborosiloxane material developed in the 1940s. However, since its birth, the molecular structure of this material has not changed, which cannot meet the extreme requirements of military equipment, individual protection, Extreme sport, advanced electronics and other harsh application scenarios. Especially for foldable mobile phones, materials with a thickness of less than 50 microns are required to effectively protect the foldable inner screen, and traditional polyborosilicate materials are completely inadequate.

SCWJ's R&D team has developed a new type of impact resistant elastomer material that is the world's leading through ingenious new molecular structure design.

This new impact resistant elastomer not only has excellent optical transparency, bonding strength, aging resistance, salt spray resistance, and high and low temperature resistance, but also has a stronger shear thickening effect than existing materials. This shear thickening effect can cause a sudden change in the modulus of the material during external impact, and the dynamic network of the material can absorb the energy brought by the impact. Therefore, even in thicknesses less than 50 microns, the material still has excellent impact protection effect.

At present, the new impact resistant elastomer material has been successfully applied inside the Mate X3 screen of Huawei's latest generation folding screen mobile phone. The inner screen adopts a composite layered structure, and innovatively introduces a new impact resistant elastomer material layer developed by SCWJ as the inner screen buffer layer, making the screen strong when it meets strength and soft when it meets softness. Compared with the previous generation of foldable screen phones, the impact resistance of its foldable inner screen has increased by four times, and this super impact resistant flexible inner screen has also obtained the world's first Swiss SGS five-star impact resistance certification, making it the pinnacle of the field of foldable screen phones today.
