High performance water vapor barrier film material

The "Patron saint" of OLED can prolong its service life, and it is urgent to get rid of imports

High-performance water vapor barrier film is one of the key materials for OLED display devices, which can ensure long-term operation of OLED displays and extend their service life. As China's flexible panel manufacturing technology matures, the demand for high-performance water vapor barrier films will also greatly increase, but China's production capacity is limited and it is urgently needed to get rid of its dependence on imports.

Material introduction

High-performance water vapor barrier film refers to a barrier film that has very low permeability to water and gas, so as to effectively maintain the original performance of the product and extend the life of the product. Due to its own characteristics, the barrier requirements of OLED materials for water vapor and oxygen are far higher than those for photovoltaic packaging, food, medicine, and electronic device packaging technology.

There are not many companies capable of producing high-performance water vapor barrier films in China, and they mainly rely on imports from Japan, South Korea and the United States.

Industry development goals

Under the premise that the service life of the flexible OLED is> 10000h, the WVTR (water vapor transmission rate) and OTR (oxygen transmission rate) of the packaging material should be lower than 10-6g/m2/ and 10-5cm3/m2/day.

Market size forecast

According to the data, it is expected that 800 million flexible AMOLED displays will be shipped in 2020, with a shipment area of 93 million square meters, and at least 140 million square meters of water vapor barrier films are required. The future shipment area of rigid OLEDs will be approximately 35:65 compared with the shipment area of flexible OLEDs, and the resulting demand for water vapor barrier films will be approximately 38 million square meters. Therefore, in 2020, for OLED packaging, the total demand for water vapor barrier films will be close to 180 million square meters.
