High-purity graphite, advanced non-ferrous metal materials and special aluminum alloy materials selected into China’s key new material application demonstration directory

On December 26, 2018, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China issued a notice on the publication of the "Guide Catalog of the First Batch of Application Demonstrations of Key New Materials (2018 Edition)". According to the notice, in order to further complete the pilot application of insurance compensation for the first batch of key new materials, the "Guide Catalog for the First Batch Application Demonstration of Key New Materials (2018 Edition)" was released and will be implemented as of the date of this notice. The Catalogue of the First Batch of Application and Demonstration Guides for Key New Materials (2017 Edition) (the former Ministry of Industry and Information Technology [2017] No. 168) was repealed at the same time.

In the 2018 edition of the first batch of key new materials, the first batch of application demonstration guides listed 166 advanced steel materials, advanced non-ferrous metal materials, advanced chemical materials, membrane materials and other new materials on the list. Among them, high-purity graphite is recorded as a mineral functional material, and 8 types of aluminum products are also included, including large-size 7050 series aluminum alloy pre-stretched thick plates, 7B50 large-size aluminum alloy pre-stretched plates, Sc-containing aluminum alloy processed materials, Aerospace support profiles, damage-resistant aluminum alloy pre-stretched sheet, high-performance aluminum alloy sheet for vehicles, Al-Si-Sc welding wire, aluminum-lithium alloy welding wire.

From the perspective of application fields, the selected aluminum products are mostly used in aviation, automobiles, high-end equipment, ships and other fields, while China's aluminum processing companies have relatively weak technology in related fields. At present, the production capacity of ordinary products in the aluminum processing industry in China is excessive, while the production capacity of high-tech, high-precision, high-quality products is insufficient. 90% of domestic high-performance aluminum materials rely on imports, and China's current high-performance aluminum alloy manufacturing technology is relatively behind the international level.

It is understood that the “Guide Catalog for the First Batch of Application Demonstrations of Key New Materials” is a policy document launched by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in conjunction with the Ministry of Finance and the former Insurance Regulatory Commission in 2017, which aims to use market-based methods to control and share the risk of new material application demonstrations. Make institutional arrangements to break the initial market bottleneck of new material applications, guide downstream customers to actively use new materials, and accelerate the transformation and application of new material-related results.

The release of the "Key New Materials First Batch Application Demonstration Guidance Catalogue (2018 Edition)" is of great significance to the development of high-performance aluminum materials in China, and will enhance the R & D strength and competitiveness of related technologies in China.
