Infineon: Will announce a new semiconductor investment plan in 2020CIIE

Last year, Infineon brought its 3D printed humanoid robot Roboy to the CIIE. Roboy has become the "Internet celebrity" who must check in at the CIIE.

What new technologies and products will Infineon bring to the CIIE this year?

Su Hua, President of Infineon Greater China, introduced that this year Infineon will reveal the technical highlights behind these "cool" applications, focusing on the four major themes: smart cars, smart grids, smart homes, and smart buildings, and show how Make people's lives more convenient, safer and environmentally friendly. Su Hua also said that this is also the first time Infineon has appeared at the CIIE as the "New Infineon". Infineon will showcase its technological breakthroughs in the third generation of semiconductor materials, and showcase Infineon IGBT technology in the field of new energy vehicles Applications.

On April 16, 2020, Infineon announced that it has officially completed the acquisition of Cypress Semiconductor, and has successfully ranked among the world's top ten semiconductor manufacturers, and has become the world's number one power discrete device and automotive semiconductor manufacturer.

Demonstrate technological breakthroughs in third-generation semiconductor materials

Su Hua introduced that now, third-generation semiconductor materials such as silicon carbide and gallium nitride are causing a revolution in clean energy and a new generation of electronic information technology. Many industries have great demands for such high-performance semiconductor materials. Infineon is also a power semiconductor manufacturer that can provide a full range of power semiconductors covering traditional silicon, as well as third-generation semiconductor materials, silicon carbide and gallium nitride.

It is understood that silicon carbide can create devices with far better performance than silicon technology. For example: to realize the fast charging of electric vehicles, shorten the charging time from 8-12 hours to tens of minutes, greatly increasing people's willingness to buy electric vehicles.

The use of gallium nitride can help increase product power density and reduce product size. For example: to create more efficient and more energy-efficient servers, and laptops and mobile phone chargers, including those we are already familiar with, will become smaller and smaller, making them easier to carry.

Demonstrate the application of Infineon IGBT technology in the field of new energy vehicles

At this CIIE, Infineon will also demonstrate the application of IGBT technology in the field of new energy vehicles, reflecting Infineon's pursuit of high quality and zero defects.

According to reports, the IGBT module is the "heart" of the power electronics industry. As a core device for energy conversion and transmission, it is widely used in automobiles, industrial power generation, home appliances and other fields.

In the field of new energy vehicles, IGBT is a component with high technical content, difficult design and manufacturing, and high cost. As EVs increase their cruising range, there are more and more on-board batteries, and the weight of the vehicle continues to rise, requiring higher power and stable IGBTs for stable and powerful driving.

The Roewe R ER6 exhibited at the Infineon International Expo uses Infineon's IGBT module, which can realize efficient and reliable power conversion, realize motor drive, and improve power efficiency and power quality. The Roewe R ER6 has a maximum speed of 185 km/h and a 0-100 acceleration time of only 8.3 seconds. Behind this, the IGBT module is indispensable.

According to reports, the IGBT module FS820 used in the Roewe R ER6 is manufactured by SAIC Infineon Automotive Power Semiconductor (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., a joint venture established by Infineon and SAIC. The joint venture's production base is located in Wuxi. The Wuxi plant is also Infineon's largest manufacturing base in China.

Optimistic about the long-term development of the Chinese market and will announce new investments

Su Hua said that the Chinese market is an important part of Infineon's global strategy. Infineon is optimistic about the long-term development potential of the Chinese market and is committed to further providing customized solutions for local customers.

"This year, a new industrial power semiconductor product development team was established in Shanghai to provide customized semiconductor modules for photovoltaic, charging piles, electric buses and other new energy applications." Su Hua said that these customized semiconductor modules will be available at Infineon The Wuxi plant is put into production, which will effectively improve the efficiency of the local supply chain, help customers reduce costs, and shorten the time to market products.

Su Hua revealed that Infineon will also announce a new investment plan in Wuxi at the CIIE.

Public information shows: In July this year, Infineon Greater China also started the construction of a competence center in Shenzhen. The new competence center is committed to empowering major industries such as smart cities and the Internet of Things with international products and solutions. Customers in China provide intelligent, high-safety and energy-efficient semiconductor products and solutions to promote product innovation and upgrade iterations.

Since the establishment of its first company in Wuxi in October 1995, Infineon's business has achieved very rapid growth. In view of the importance of the Chinese market, Infineon established the Greater China region in 2018 as an independent region. In fiscal year 2019, Infineon Greater China accounted for 35% of the company's total global revenue, becoming Infineon's largest single revenue source region, providing an important impetus for Infineon's global business development.
