Japanese KANEKA Chemical Company Develops New Transparent Polyimide (PI) Film for OLED Displays

Japan's ZKANEKA Chemical Co., Ltd. has recently developed a transparent polyimide (PI) film suitable for use in the cover window of flexible OLED displays.

It is understood that this new product combines the Japanese molecular technology of PI molecular design and optical thin film formation technology, thus achieving physical properties applicable to OLED displays. Although the physical properties of the detailed product have not yet been disclosed, the company said that it does have the physical properties required for display materials such as repetitive bending, transparency, surface hardness, and surface smoothness.

According to the survey, the market size of OLED displays in 2018 was 6.7 million square meters, but under the background of flexibility and high-speed communication, it will expand to 25.2 million square meters in 2025.

Therefore, KANEKA's goal is to make the sales of newly developed PI film products reach 10 billion yen (about 612 million yuan) by 2025.

Production of the new products has started at the Shiga plant, and commercial samples will begin shipping before September this year. Although the current public opinion is full of doubts about the application of transparent polyimide film on the foldable cover, KANEKA still seems full of confidence in its sales.
