LANXESS Durethan glass fiber reinforced nylon 66 material for vehicle air filtration systems

LANXESS announced that it will replace metal materials with reinforced nylon 66 for the manufacture of commercial vehicle air filtration systems.

LANXESS's Durethan® AKV 50 H2.0 is a glass fiber reinforced nylon 66 material with a glass fiber content of 50%. Beginning in 2017, Mercedes Actros heavy trucks will be equipped with two new plastic air filters with structural parts made of Durethan® AKV 50 H2.0 nylon 66. This is also the first time that Mercedes has used plastic structural parts as the load part of an air filter.

According to LANXESS, compared with the original steel structure, this material can reduce weight by 2.9 kg and reduce weight by more than 50% while meeting high strength indicators. This can significantly reduce the manufacturing costs of the product.
