LANXESS: Polyurethane Dispersion for Glass Fiber Sizing at the European Coatings Show 2019

At the European Coatings Show in Nuremberg from March 19th to 21st this year, LANXESS will showcase its comprehensive product portfolio for the coatings industry. One of the highlights will be innovative raw materials for the deployment of water-based systems, which are used in a wide range of applications, including glass fiber sizing, plastic coatings, textile finishing and automotive coatings.

LANXESS 'water-based systems enable customers in the coatings industry to comply with increasingly stringent regulations, such as volatile organic compounds (VOC), while developing high-performance products that meet the needs of modern applications.

Enhance your system by cross-linking with Trixene Aqua

LANXESS Trixene-Aqua series water-based blocked isocyanate dispersion is an excellent cross-linking agent and tackifier in water-based coating systems. They improve the chemical and mechanical resistance of coatings and sizing formulations, making them better in performance and durability in end applications. Due to the blocked isocyanate groups, they are more stable than the corresponding free radicals and can be easily formulated in various 1-K and 2-K systems with various complementary waterborne resins such as hydroxy-functional acrylics, polyesters and polyurethane .

For example, in textile processing, Trixene Aqua Bi 220 can be used as a tackifier for waterproof coatings on sports and fashion apparel, providing superior durability. Similarly, Trixene Aqua Bi 201 can also be used as a cross-linking agent for automotive clear coatings, improving peel resistance and optical appearance.

Witcobond and Trixene Aqua: a powerful combination of water-based, high-performance polyurethane coating systems

In addition to Trixene Aqua, LANXESS offers a complete set of water-based Witcobond polyurethane dispersions (PUD). Especially in terms of glass fiber sizing, LANXESS has developed high solids products that provide superior adhesion to filaments in fiber and composite processing, and have excellent physical properties in the final application. For example, WITCOBOND 374-13 is a polyester-based polyurethane dispersion that provides good integrity for chopped strand production and good adhesion to a variety of thermoplastic and thermoset substrates. In combination with LANXESS 'latest development of Trixene Aqua Bi 202, this system enhances the adhesion between glass fibers used in advanced composites and various resin matrices.

Witcobond products can be used in a wide range of other applications, for water-based coatings and finishes on hard and flexible substrates. They contain anionic, cationic, and nonionic chemistry, so they provide adhesives that cover the entire pH range. Extensive list includes products with solids up to 60%, dispersants with low or no co-solvent content, including products without N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP), and products without nonionic surfactants such as alkyl Phenol ethoxylate (APEOS), or more specifically, nonylphenol ethoxylate (NPEOS) -free.
