LANXESS Tepex dynalite inlaid all-plastic brake pedal wins first prize in the “Interior of the Car Body” category of the Society of Plastic Engineers (SPE) Automotive Award

This safety part is used in the Porsche Panamera NF and Bentley Continental GT. This product was developed jointly by LANXESS Performance Materials and international supplier BOGE Elastmetall GmbH. BOGE mainly supplies rubber metal parts, chassis, powertrain suspension frames and precision manufacturing plastic parts for the automotive industry.

Tepex dynalite is a fully integrated semi-finished product with a thermoplastic matrix reinforced by multiple layers of continuous glass fiber fabric. The brake pedal adopts a composite structure of polyamide 6 matrix, which is reinforced by fiber inlays in the same direction with multiple plus-minus 45 ° braided inner layers. The inlay provides extremely high tensile and flexural strength to the brake pedal, while the inner layer increases the torsional strength of the pedal.

According to Ulrich Jecmeniza, a lightweight structural expert at Bond-Laminates GmbH, the part is manufactured using a one-time hybrid molding process with a short cycle time, which is very suitable for large-scale batch production. The process combines injection molding of Tepex inserts. The injection molding material is Durethan BKV 60 H2.0, which is a polyamide 6 material developed by LANXESS and reinforced with 60% short glass fibers. "With the injection molding process, we can integrate many functions of the brake pedal, such as the guide and contact surface of the pedal bracket, into the component, thereby reducing manufacturing costs. For areas with higher stress, we also use ribs to perform the component Enhance ".

Jecmeniza said, "The brake pedal is only half the weight of a similar steel structure. The product can be mass-produced in a cost-effective one-step process and can be satisfied with the multi-axis fiber layer structure of its Tepex insert Higher load requirements ". As a subsidiary of the LANXESS Group, Bond-Laminates GmbH develops and manufactures continuous fiber reinforced thermoplastic composites under the Tepex brand.
