China’s largest niobium alloy nozzle successfully tested Hay:A04BJLJ

On April 15, 2024, BJLJ Aerospace Technology announced that the hot test center has successfully completed the engine test and assessment of China’s largest niobium alloy nozzle. After the test, the product structure is intact and the surface coating is intact.

The engine operates for 380 seconds under rated and high operating conditions, and the structural reliability, thermal protection reliability, and process reliability of the niobium alloy nozzle have passed the assessment.

This niobium alloy nozzle has a diameter of about 1.6 meters and a height of about 1.3 meters, which is much larger than the existing similar products in China. It is matched with the currently most powerful vacuum type liquid oxygen methane engine in China, the Tianque 15A (TQ-15A), with a vacuum thrust of 836 kilonewtons and a vacuum specific impulse of 3320 meters per second.

To further enhance the carrying capacity of the Zhuque series liquid oxygen methane rocket, BJLJ Aerospace has proposed a manufacturing process route for large-sized niobium alloy nozzles made of sheet metal forming and laser welding.

 

This has broken through the existing bottleneck of raw materials and process technology in China, and all key technologies are independently developed.

Moreover, we have pioneered high-precision sheet metal forming technology for niobium alloys, high-precision machining technology for large-sized hyperbolic thin-walled parts, high-precision assembly technology for large-sized hyperbolic thin-walled parts, niobium alloy air environment laser welding and anti oxidation technology, and coating preparation and sintering technology for large-sized niobium alloy products.

It is worth looking forward to that the BJLJ aerospace engine team has started developing niobium alloy nozzles with a larger area ratio, and the outlet diameter will reach 2.5 meters.
BJLJ Aerospace stated that the successful development of large-sized niobium alloy nozzles will surpass foreign leading positions in this technology.
