Linde and Evonik reach strategic cooperation in the field of natural gas membrane processing

Linde Group, a technology company, and Evonik Industries, a specialty chemical company, reached an exclusive cooperation agreement to use membrane-based methods for natural gas processing. The two companies will work together to develop membrane technology-Evonik will focus on membrane and polymer development, while Linde Engineering will integrate the entire membrane module system. Evonik's existing membrane technology will play a fundamental role.

Tobias Keller, director of the adsorption and membrane plant product line at Linde Engineering, said: "We are pleased to have successfully partnered with Evonik in the important natural gas processing gas separation market. HISELECT ™ membrane products bring a new approach to gas separation, especially It can be combined with our existing processes. By doing this, we can strengthen our position as the world's leading gas separation technology company and a supplier of complete separation equipment. "

The core of the cooperation is Evonik's polymer-based membrane technology. Evonik has further developed the technology for use in the natural gas sector and has recently launched commercial applications. This is the main component of Linde's new HISELECT ™ membrane, which will be rolled out globally in a complete membrane module for onshore gas separation and plant upgrades.

Dr. Axel Kobus, Head of Evonik's Fiber, Membrane Products and Specialty Product Lines, said, "Our latest membrane technology for natural gas upgrades has expanded our current product category. With membrane technology, in less than 10 years, Relying on our expertise in polymers, we have built a strong and attractive membrane product portfolio for almost the entire gas separation market. Our exclusive partnership with Linde in key natural gas markets has strengthened our strategic positioning globally And reputation. "

Successful cooperation in helium recovery

In 2016, Linde and Evonik strengthened their cooperation in membrane-based gas separation. During this cooperation, a helium upgrade reference plant in Mankota, Canada was completed. This is the first plant to combine two separation methods: membrane technology and pressure swing adsorption technology. The plant can process more than 250,000 standard cubic meters of raw material gas per day, and can produce industrial high-quality helium with a purity of 99.999%.

The SEPURAN® product line includes membrane products for biogas upgrades, nitrogen extraction, and helium and hydrogen upgrades.

These products are produced at the Schulflin site in Austria. High-performance polymer raw materials for basic materials are produced from nearby Evonik Evonik bases.

Linde Engineering is the world's leading supplier of plant construction, with more than 4,000 plants worldwide.
