Major breakthroughs in key technologies for China’s high-steel grade large-diameter long-distance pipelines

According to statistics, as of 2018, China has completed 130,000 kilometers of long-term oil and gas pipelines, and this data will reach 240,000 kilometers by 2025. Among them, high-calibre large-caliber represented by the West-East Gas Pipeline 1, 2 and 3, and China-Russia East Line. There are 40,000 kilometers of pipelines, and with the rapid growth of China ’s oil and gas consumption and imports, the construction scale of high-steel grade large-caliber pipelines will gradually increase. But while these pipes bring a lot of "blessings", they also put strict requirements on safe operation.

Li Helin, a Chinese material scientist, an expert in petroleum pipe engineering, and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, pointed out that the main technical challenges in the safety of construction and operation of long-distance pipelines in China were as follows: First, the lack of a full-scale blasting test platform could not accurately predict the crack stopping toughness of large-scale pipelines; The second is the bottleneck of pipeline disaster prevention technology under complex load conditions, which is difficult to meet the safety protection requirements; the third is the low detection accuracy of weld defects and the lack of continuous stress detection equipment; the fourth is the lack of understanding of the failure mechanism and disaster consequences of high-steel-grade large-caliber pipelines. , Risk management is difficult.

"Predicting and predicting the risks of preventing oil and gas pipelines, avoiding the occurrence of vicious accidents, and realizing the intrinsic safety of pipelines is our unshirkable responsibility," said Min Xihua, general manager of PetroChina Western Pipeline Company. In order to transport oil and gas to the motherland and send "blessings" to the people, since 2006, with the support of 24 national and Chinese petroleum research projects, the Western Pipeline Corporation has organized more than 200 scientific and technological personnel in 7 units of "industry-industry-research". The above technical challenges lasted for 12 years, and the world's third full-scale blasting test device and test method for high-steel-grade large-caliber natural gas pipelines were created. The pipeline disaster prevention technology under complex load conditions was innovated and related national standards were established. Pipeline high-precision monitoring and testing equipment and systems; the formation of four major technological innovations such as high-steel-grade large-caliber pipeline quantitative risk assessment technology, effectively solved the four major challenges, and laid a solid foundation for the safe operation of China's oil and gas pipelines, especially for future pipeline construction basis.

Four innovations have won 25 national invention patents and 9 standards have been formulated. 4 achievements have won the first prize of provincial and ministerial level scientific and technological progress, and the overall level has reached the international advanced level. Among them, the pipeline full-scale blasting test and crack arrest and weak pipeline stress Key technologies such as magnetic detection have reached the international leading level, becoming the fourth country in the world to master this technology after the United States, Italy, and Russia.
