MarkForged launched the world's first desktop 3D printer that can print composite materials, MarkOne. The molding size of the equipment is 305mm × 160mm × 160mm, and carbon fiber and other composite materials can be used to directly produce “continuous fiber reinforced” plastic parts with mechanical properties comparable to metal parts.
This machine has two print heads, one will use nylon material, and the other will use carbon fiber, glass fiber and other high-strength fiber materials, and then jointly manufacture super-strength parts with strength comparable to or even higher than aluminum products.
MarkForged's CEO GregMark believes that an important reason for the high price of carbon fiber is its production process: complex, time-consuming, and large manpower requirements. Mark believes that the new technology developed by their company is as simple as designing the parts in the computer, clicking the button, and the parts will come out in a few hours. Due to the wide range of applications of the equipment and its strong practicability, the company achieved 400% revenue in 2015.
