Medtronic showcases a new generation of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation technology ECMO at 2020 CIIE

In the process of treating Coronavirus (COVID-19) patients, the "artificial lung" ECMO can be said to be the "last line of defense" to rescue critically ill patients. At the third CIIE, Medtronic, a world-renowned medical technology company, released a new generation of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation technology, ECMO, with integrated monitoring functions to facilitate the use of critically ill patients during transportation. This is also the first appearance of the product in China.

At today's [November 5th] global new product launch conference, Medtronic's product leader introduced its new generation of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation technology ECMO to the public. "The new generation of oxygenation technology ECMO has integrated monitoring functions and is an integrated system." According to the person in charge of Medtronic, the equipment does not require an external monitoring device to achieve real-time and accurate measurement of important indicators such as pressure, blood oxygen saturation, and temperature. Monitoring allows doctors to understand the patient’s condition more intuitively. The most important thing is that after the monitoring device is integrated, it can make ECMO mobile management, no longer restricted by the site, and fight for the golden rescue time for the lives of critically ill patients during the transfer process. He said that the product is currently in the process of registration in China and will be officially launched in the near future.

During the epidemic, many cutting-edge medical technology innovations have become powerful weapons for doctors and patients to compete with the virus. In particular, various treatments for the critically ill of new coronary pneumonia have built a solid "last line of defense" for patients.

At the Medtronic booth, there is an exhibition area for “Pandemic Prevention and Control Solutions”, which simulates intensive care scenarios in real life, and focuses on a series of critical care treatments and their updated technologies that play an important role during the epidemic, including: a new generation of extracorporeal membranes that debuted in China for the first time Lung oxygenation technology ECMO uses long-acting oxygenator Nautilus Smart with integrated monitoring function; continuous blood purification device to resist the storm of cell inflammatory factors; key medical equipment PB980 ventilator for the treatment of patients with new coronary pneumonia.

"Under the unprecedented challenge of the global epidemic, medical care has become the center of public vision, and the entire society is thinking more urgently about how to create a safe and healthy future." said Gu Yushao, Medtronic's senior vice president and president of Greater China, "We will continue to take root. China is accelerating the introduction of global innovative therapies, strengthening local innovation and production, benefiting the Chinese market with more medical technology achievements, and enhancing future medical service capabilities."
