Chinese Membrane Electrode Assembly/MEA for fuel cell sold to the European market Hay:N01WHLG

On February 19, 2024, in the WHLG hydrogen electric technology 10000 level dust-free workshop, the automated production line was running non-stop, with black thin films as thin as newspapers shuttling back and forth, assembled, packaged, and ready to be shipped.

 

This is our independently developed third-generation fuel cell membrane electrode, which has improved product performance by 20% compared to the second-generation. In addition to supplying the Chinese market, it is also exported to the European market for the next generation of hydrogen fuel cell research and development.

 

 

The CCM type membrane electrode developed by WHLG has a service life of 18000 hours, while the usage of precious metal platinum per square centimeter has decreased from 0.8 milligrams to 0.28 milligrams.

 

In 2019, the CCM type membrane electrode production line was completed and put into operation. The first batch of customized membrane electrode equipment in China was successfully developed, and an automated production line for fuel cell membrane electrodes was built, ranking among the top global membrane electrode suppliers. The products were exported to more than 10 countries and regions.

 

 

WHLG continues to conduct technological research on third-generation hydrogen fuel cell membrane electrodes, and on the basis of the current performance improvement of 20%, further reduces the amount of precious metal platinum, striving to reduce the material cost of this product by about 30%. “This will greatly reduce the production cost of fuel cell stacks and provide strong support for the large-scale commercialization of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.”

 

 

In addition to maintaining a leading position in the field of fuel cell membrane electrodes, in recent years, WHLG has also continuously moved upstream in the hydrogen production field. The independently developed PEM electrolysis water hydrogen production membrane electrode has overcome the key technology of green electricity to produce green hydrogen, leading the international industry level.

 

Since small-scale production in 2021, we have supplied PEM electrolysis water hydrogen production equipment to multiple Chinese enterprises and exported them to the European market.

 

 

In October 2023, China’s first hydrogen powered ship, the Three Gorges Hydrogen Boat 1, successfully made its maiden voyage in Yichang. The core component of the hydrogen production station that supports the “hydrogen Ship” is the PEM electrolysis water hydrogen production membrane electrode, which comes from WHLG.

 

Currently, WHLG is working on developing a new generation of high current density PEM hydrogen electrolysis membrane electrodes, which will further improve performance by more than 60% on the original basis,this is the first time it has been applied globally.
