On the morning of December 9, 2022, COMAC delivered the world’s first C919 large passenger aircraft to China Eastern Airlines.

 

The Ultra fine fiberglass/microfiberglass sound insulation felt in the sound insulation system of C919 aircraft cabin is a lightweight and flexible material, which is made of special ultra-fine fiber glass wool, usually called “aircraft wool”, and is designed to save space and weight.

 

Previously, only two US companies produced such “aircraft wool” in the world.

 

CQZS Advanced Materials Technology Group is the only professional company in the world that can simultaneously manufacture three major air filtration materials: high-performance glass fiber filter materials, low resistance melt blown filter materials and efficient PTFE membranes.

 

In 2016, CQZS began to develop “aircraft wool” for C919 large aircraft.

 

“Aircraft wool” is mainly made of quartz sand, albite, borax and other raw materials through flame blowing, negative pressure cotton gathering and other processes.

 

The diameter of conventional glass fiber is 5-10 μ m, while the average diameter of ultra-fine glass fiber required by “aircraft wool” is 2 μ m.

 

To this end, CQZS has started five years of scientific and technological research and development, invested about 70 million yuan successively, established a separate production workshop, set up China’s first aviation grade acoustic laboratory recognized by COMAC, and has 13 of the 16 testing capabilities.

 

In 2020, the first model of “aircraft wool” developed by the company passed the audit of COMAC and became its qualified supplier.

 

In 2021, the company’s first batch of “aircraft wool” samples will be delivered to COMAC for use on the first C919 large passenger aircraft.

 

In 2022, the company signed a batch of “aircraft wool” orders with COMAC.

 

Sound insulation, flame retardant, water repellent and corrosion resistant

 

The aviation grade sound insulation cotton developed by the company is made of bio harmless superfine glass fiber cotton, which is double-sided compounded with special film materials, cut and shaped according to the size of the aircraft to form a sound insulation package;

 

The sound insulation package is fixed on the keel of the aircraft cabin to evenly cover the entire cabin, effectively block noise and heat conduction, and keep the cabin quiet and at an appropriate temperature.

 

This technology of CQZS fills the gap in China and realizes the localization of “aircraft wool”.

 

This aviation grade sound insulation cotton has stable chemical properties, excellent waterproof, moisture-proof and sound insulation performance, and low thermal conductivity. It is commonly used in high-speed rail, ships, aviation and other fields.

 

In addition to COMAC, SpaceX’s rocket fairing also uses acoustic & heat insulation materials developed by CQZS.

It`s simple and convenient to be used, no need for second processing. Officially certified by the EU rohs/reach/EUCEB, this kind of new material is ideal for thermal and sound insulation area.

 

The ultra-fine glass fiber cotton with special formula has passed the biocompatibility certification of Fraunhofer Research Institute in Germany, becoming the only enterprise in China to obtain the green and healthy fiber certification of the European Mineral Cotton Product Certification Board (EUCEB).

 

The controllable construction mechanism of the ultra-fine glass fiber cotton fiber network structure for aviation, and the uniformity of the surface density and thermal conductivity of the prepared insulation material have reached the international advanced level. Developed a complete series of 5 models of sound insulation materials for large aircraft, achieving mass supply, breaking foreign monopolies, and solving the bottleneck problem of the C919 aircraft’s sound insulation system.

 

At present, it is the only enterprise in China and the third in the world that can mass produce this product by CQZS.
