Midwest Prototyping acquires Tenere to expand 3D printing services business

Nowadays, the demand for 3D printing services is being stimulated more and more, and many companies dedicated to providing 3D printing services have achieved rapid development and carried out mergers and acquisitions. On August 7, 2018, Antarctic Bear learned from foreign media that additive manufacturing service provider Midwest Prototyping announced plans to expand its services to Colorado.

The Wisconsin-based company announced the acquisition after acquiring the rapid prototyping division of Tenere. The purchase price was not disclosed.

"Expanding to Colorado is an exciting step for Midwest Prototyping," said Steve Grundahl, president and founder of Midwest Prototyping. "Providing quality service is the foundation of our organization, and we look forward to bringing our customer service and expertise to a new place."

Since its inception in 2001, Midwest Prototyping has continued to grow for many years, including its 2008 acquisition of Manitowoc Prototypes. However, this marks the company's first acquisition outside Wisconsin.

This expansion into Colorado illustrates the state's continued growth as a center for 3D printing technology and services. At the end of last month, Vartega, a carbon fiber materials recycling specialist, launched the Advanced Materials and Additive Manufacturing Development and Education (AMIDE) Association with the Colorado Clean Technology Industry Association and the North American engineering organization EWI.

The AMIDE Association aims to provide key resources for the development of thermoplastics for additive manufacturing. Other well-known Colorado 3D printing agencies include LulzBot, an open source supplier of 3D printers and materials suppliers, and the Colorado School of Mines, which has proposed using 3D bioprinters as a way to better study the effects of glaucoma.

"We intend to continue to provide all the services provided by Tenere and be able to launch new HP and Carbon products that we have been using at our Wisconsin factory for the past few years."

With its new expanded service, customers in Colorado can now upload files directly for personalized quotes. Midwest Prototyping expects its new facility to provide customers with faster turnaround times on the Great Plains and Pacific Coast to meet their 3D printing needs.
