On January 21, Mitsubishi Chemical announced that it will acquire the German carbon fiber prepreg manufacturer c-m-p through its German subsidiary to further strengthen the company's carbon fiber composite materials business. The acquisition is expected to be completed in February 2020.
c-m-p company has a unidirectional fabric / prepreg production technology, providing solutions for a number of end-use applications including aerospace and automotive.
After the acquisition is completed, Mitsubishi Chemical will have its own prepreg plants in Europe, the United States and Japan. The newly acquired c-m-p company will work with the newly established SMC molding compound factory in Modena, Italy, to help Mitsubishi Chemical expand its carbon fiber composite production capacity in Europe so as to take the lead in the future mobile transportation field.
