Mitsui Chemicals boosts UHMW polyethylene capacity to meet battery separator demand

Mitsui Chemicals Co., Ltd. has expanded the production capacity of Hi-Zex Million ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) to meet the growing application needs of automotive and industrial batteries. The company's production line facilities will be put into use on August 7. This increased the company's production capacity of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene from the original 7,500 tons per year at the company's Dazhu factory to 8,500 tons per year, an overall increase of 15%.

Hi-Zex Million UHMWPE developed by Mitsui Chemicals has an average molecular weight of 0.5 million to 6 million. And because the material has excellent chemical resistance, abrasion resistance, impact resistance and self-lubrication (using solid powder, film or some monolithic materials to reduce the friction and wear between the two bearing surfaces), it can be used for lithium Ion battery separators, industrial materials, and medical devices. In addition, it is reported that the shape of the product made by Hi-Zex Million UHMWPE remains consistent, and the material has excellent solubility.
