Mitsui Chemicals increases capacity of high-performance elastomer Tafmer polyolefin plasticizers and elastomers (POEs / POPs)

Mitsui Chemicals' wholly-owned subsidiary Singapore Mitsui Elastomers SingaPOre Pte Ltd will increase its capacity of Tafmer polyolefin plasticizers and elastomers (POEs / POPs). The company will set up two additional production lines at its Singapore plant, and by July 2020, increase its existing 200,000 tons / year capacity to 225,000 tons / year.

Mitsui Chemicals is increasing the production capacity of special elastomers at its Singapore production base. Tafmer products are widely used in the automotive industry for polypropylene composite modification, engineering plastic (PA) impact modification, and can also replace EVA resin as a solar panel packaging material and sports. Midsole. Another key application is heat sealing applications in packaging.

The tightening of environmental regulations has stimulated OEMs' demand for lightweighting, and the automotive industry in particular has driven demand growth. To meet this growth, Mitsui Chemicals plans to increase the capacity of the elastomer series by eliminating bottlenecks at its existing Tafmer production facility in Singapore.

Mitsui Chemicals is also considering further increasing Tafmer's production capacity to continue expanding its business. At a financial briefing in June, the company's president, Tsutomu Tannowa, hinted that a new Tafmer plant could be built in North America, China, or an existing production base in Singapore.
