New Metal bipolar plate coating technology reduces coating cost by 80% Hay:N01SHJZ

SHJZ Hydrogen Energy Technology, a leading hydrogen fuel cell research and development manufacturer in China, announced significant technological progress. Its self-developed fifth generation metal bipolar plate coating technology, the upgraded version of “Black gold Coating” has been completed.

On the basis of reducing coating costs by 60% before this, an additional 80% will effectively promote the commercialization of hydrogen fuel cell technology and inject strong momentum into the marketization process of the hydrogen energy industry.

As a power system, the fuel cell stack is the most difficult and technically challenging link in the development of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, which largely determines the performance, lifespan, and cost of the entire vehicle. One of the key technologies of the fuel cell stack is coating.

The breakthrough and cost reduction of coating technology are crucial for the large-scale commercial application of hydrogen fuel cells, and have been one of the key focuses of SHJZ Hydrogen Energy’s continuous technological breakthroughs for many years.

SHJZ backed by the State Key Laboratory of Dalian University of Technology and the National Hydrogen Energy “863” project, is the first team in China to carry out the research and development of fuel cell metal plate coating technology and equipment.

Since 2002, the SHJZ R&D team has developed fourth generation coating equipment and coating systems, and achieved a 60% reduction in the cost of hydrogen fuel cell metal plate coating in 2022.

Coating technology involves multiple aspects such as materials, structures, processes, and equipment. Although a coating may only be a few micrometers in size, it is a vast and complex system engineering.

SHJZ Hydrogen Energy, with its profound technological accumulation and research and development capabilities, has further optimized its technology in various aspects on the basis of the fourth generation coating. It has developed multiple new technologies such as fast physical cooling methods, continuously improving efficiency and reducing costs. Finally, it has successfully developed the fifth generation coating technology and reduced costs by an additional 80% on the previous basis.
