Nexperia acquired 100% ownership of Newport Wafer Fab and officially changed its name to Nexperia Newport

On July 5, Wingtech`s wholly-owned subsidiary Nexperia Semiconductor announced that it has completed the signing of a transaction agreement to acquire Newport Wafer Fab (NWF), which can help the company achieve its ambitious growth goals and investments, and further increase global production capacity. Through this acquisition, Nexperia Semiconductor has obtained 100% ownership of the Welsh semiconductor silicon chip production plant.

Nexperia Newport will continue to occupy an important position in the Welsh semiconductor ecosystem, leading the technology research and development of the Newport area and other factories in the region.

Nexperia is a customer of foundry services provided by Newport Wafer Fab and became its second largest shareholder by investing in Neptune 6 Limited in 2019. In addition to the Newport plant, Nexperia's two other European manufacturing plants in Manchester and Hamburg have also received huge investments recently.

Achim Kempe, Chief Operating Officer of Nexperia Semiconductor, said: "We are very pleased to expand global manufacturing operations to Xingang. Nexperia has formulated an ambitious growth plan, and the addition of the Xingang plant will help meet the global demand for semiconductors. Market demand. The Xingang plant has a skilled operation team that plays a vital role in ensuring the continuity of supply. We look forward to building a bright future together."

Dr. Paul James, General Manager of the Xingang Plant, added: “This acquisition is good news for the employees of the Xingang Plant and the wider business district of the entire region. Nexperia is investing heavily to increase production capacity to ensure that it can achieve a long-term future in the future. Stable development. We look forward to becoming a member of Nexperia's global team and hope to retain the existing workforce and expand when needed. We are also very happy to continue to contribute to the local semiconductor ecosystem."

Dr. Drew Nelson, the outgoing NWF chairman, said: “The change in ownership of the Xingang plant marks an important step towards the future of the plant and the region. We are very pleased to be able to maintain the development of high-end silicon devices in the 200 mm fab. Expertise. At the same time, this acquisition also gives us the opportunity to continue to develop new compound semiconductor production technologies and become an important part of the South Wales compound semiconductor cluster"

The Xingang Semiconductor Manufacturing Plant was originally established in 1982 and was named INMOS at the time. The current monthly production capacity is more than 35,000 200 mm wafers, covering a variety of semiconductor technologies, from MOSFETs and trench IGBTs using wafer thinning methods to CMOS, analog and compound semiconductors. The Xingang plant, together with the current investments in 200 mm wafers in the Manchester and Hamburg fabs, will help Nexperia achieve its ambitious strategic growth goals and enrich its IGBT, analog and compound semiconductor product lines. In addition, this acquisition has significantly improved Nexperia's ability to supply products that comply with vehicle-level standards and expanded its market share.

Zhang Xuezheng, Chairman of Wingtech Technology, Chairman and CEO of Nexperia Semiconductor, welcomed Newport to the Wingtech Anshi family and warmly congratulated the establishment of Nexperia Newport Ltd..
