Nichia developed a new Mini-LED

Nichia released the next-generation Mini LED on May 5, targeting desktop monitors, notebook computers, tablet computers, head-mounted displays and other application fields. It has already begun to deliver to NB factories. For this reason, Nichia is in Japan's Tokushima invested 60 billion yen to expand production. The current monthly production capacity is about 50,000 units, which is expected to rise to 2 million units in 2023. Nichia will take this to announce that it will enter the mini LED market.

Nichia has newly developed a Mini-LED light source-Nichia Light Cluster type V, which is used in ultra-thin liquid crystal displays. The market application is targeted at desktop displays, notebook computers, tablet computers, and head-mounted displays.

Compared with the previous Mini-LED light source, Nichia's light source can achieve a full screen brightness of 1,000 nits with extremely low power consumption; and a partial screen range can achieve an ultra-high brightness of 2,000 nits. In addition, the local lighting of 1,000 divisions can achieve a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1. With these features, consumers can enjoy the presence of the screen without worrying about battery power consumption. In addition, the backlight module can achieve the industry's thinnest thickness of 1.63mm, realizing the thinning of Mini-LED notebooks.

Nichia is a leading LED manufacturer and one of the supply chains of American customers. With the advent of Apple’s 12.9-inch iPad Pro, the number of mini LEDs used has reached 10,000. It is logical that Nichia will also win mini LED orders from American customers. .

In order to build production capacity, Nichia will invest 60 billion yen in Tokushima, Japan, to expand the production capacity of mini LEDs. The monthly production capacity is estimated to be 2 million in 2023.
