Owens Corning is a developer and manufacturer of thermal insulation materials, roofing materials and fiberglass composites, acquiring an existing manufacturing facility in Blythwood, South Carolina. Owens Corning will produce coated nonwovens for a variety of applications in the North American building materials industry.

Owens Corning's $ 13.6 million capital investment is expected to create 16 new jobs. The company plans to convert an existing production line to produce coated nonwovens. The acquisition is the first step in establishing a center of excellence for glass fiber nonwovens, and the company will continue to invest in the use of state-of-the-art technology to expand production capacity.

The company already has plants in Aiken, Charleston, Duncan and Starr, South Carolina, and the newly purchased plant will be Owens Corning's first Richland County manufacturing facility. Recruitment of new positions is expected to begin at the end of 2019.

As an incentive, the Economic Development Coordinating Board has allocated $ 150,000 to Richland County for the construction of the plant.

"The operation in Braywood represents a valuable expansion of the thriving business. Adding this new addition to glass fiber coating solutions in South Carolina The production capacity and capabilities will help us better serve North American residential and commercial building product customers. "

Governor Henry McMaster said, "We are pleased to celebrate the announcement and welcome another Owens Corning manufacturing facility to join the South Carolina business district. The state has manufacturing facilities from globally renowned manufacturers. We are proud to choose South Carolina. "
