Pierberg introduces air-conditioning components for electric vehicles

In automobiles with conventional internal combustion engines, air conditioning compressors are usually driven via pulleys and V-belts. In electric vehicles, there is no such mechanical transmission. The air-conditioning compressor is driven by a motor and integrated into the vehicle's high-voltage grid. Pilborg successfully developed an electric air-conditioning compressor (eCC) based on its own experience in mechatronics component suppliers.

The new compressor has a compact structure and can be used in ordinary installation space. It is suitable for passing HV2 and HV3 pipelines. The three modules of mechanical unit, motor and electronic control are integrated and modular.

In the research and development process, special emphasis is placed on lightweight and efficiency. Ensure the efficient use of the limited power provided by the vehicle battery pack.

Other functions in low temperature environment

The product is well-designed to realize the traditional air-conditioning operation in high-temperature environments and also to perform heat pump work in low-temperature environments. By using a heat pump to heat the cab, the energy output from the battery pack can be reduced as required, thereby increasing the vehicle's range.

Another research and development focus is the low noise of the compressor during operation, because the noise and vibration generated by the compressor will disturb the driver and passengers.

Expansion valve for refrigerant circulation

Pilberg also developed another component, the electronic expansion valve for refrigerant circulation, which also combines extensive experience in the field of mechatronics. New valves are usually installed in an evaporator or refrigerator to control the flow of refrigerant, and these heat exchangers are suitable for regulating the air conditioning in the car and cooling the components of the battery pack or electric drive system.

The compact design of the valve developed by Pilberg is perfectly integrated into the heat exchanger. Refrigerant flow can be controlled by an electronic regulator as needed to increase system efficiency.
