Polymer materials leader INEOS Styrolution collaborates with Indaver to advance the development of polystyrene circular economy

INEOS Styrolution, as the world's leading supplier of styrene products, announced on July 9th its cooperation with Indaver nv. Indaver nv is a European waste management company headquartered in the port of Antwerp, Belgium, with large-scale (waste) processing equipment, which promotes the chemical recovery of European polystyrene.

The partnership between the two companies aims to take advantage of the recyclability of polystyrene and turn post-consumer waste into valuable resources. Indaver's rigorous testing of the depolymerization and purification process, as well as its Plastics2 Chemicals project, which is planned to be set up in the port of Antwerp, will benefit this cooperation. The device will be put into operation in the first half of 2021, with an annual recovery capacity of 15,000 tons.

Indaver has a complete track record and provides a powerful solution for the chemical industry. The proximity of Ineos Benzene's Antwerp plant also helps to work closely together. The initial cooperation focused on ensuring that the output of the Indaver depolymerization process is consistent with the raw material specifications of the Inox benzene collar polymerization process.

Paul De Bruycker, CEO of Indaver, said: "Waste is not its final form, it is just a stage in the material life cycle. Through the innovative Plastics2Chemicals project, Indaver has developed sustainable solutions for recycling plastic waste into advanced materials. One of our preferred partners is pleased to be working with INEOS Styrolution to use these recycled materials as a valuable alternative to raw materials. This project is a case of sustainable industry development and achieving plastic price stability in Europe. "

In his welcome speech, Rob Buntinx, President of INEOS Styrolution Europe, emphasized: "Promoting the development of the polystyrene circular economy is the core work of our Inox Benz collar. We believe that chemical recycling is the key cornerstone of reducing post-consumer waste. I am very happy to be here Europe has found such a strong partner to share our goals and improve our technology. "
