Polyplastics launches new grade of DURACON® / DURACON® POM, making parts smaller and thinner

Polyplastics / DURACON® POM independently developed by Polyplastics Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Polyplastics") is widely used in automobiles due to its excellent mechanical properties, heat resistance, fuel resistance, and good forming and processing characteristics. Fuel components, such as fuel pump component modules, module fixing nuts, fuel tank caps, valves, etc.

Polyplastics has recently launched a new grade of H140-54C, Duracon® / Duracon® POM, with high fluidity and high rigidity.

New steel grade D140 / DURACON® POM H140-54C improves rigidity, reduces product thickness, and suppresses the increase in peak pressure during injection molding due to reduced thickness through high fluidity, which will help reduce the size of parts And thin.

In addition, Polyplastics is also developing Duracon® / Duracon® POM with electrical conductivity. According to reports, in order to prevent static electricity, parts around the fuel are usually made of conductive materials.

In general, imparting conductivity affects other characteristics, resulting in reduced fluidity and toughness. However, the new grade of Duracon® / DURACON® POM that the company is developing is able to maintain the advantages of POM resin while successfully imparting conductivity.

Application of Dingang Steel / DURACON® POM in Automotive Fuel Components

Module fixing nut

A resin nut is used to secure the fuel pump module to the fuel tank. For this purpose, a metal lock mechanism is sometimes used, but it is recommended to use a high-strength grade that has creep resistance (long creep failure life and small creep deformation) in steel.

Fuel pump module

This component integrates the function of supplying fuel from the fuel tank to the engine. Usually, it is modularized (functional integration) of various parts such as the fuel pump, fuel transmitter, fuel filter, and pressure regulator. Most parts are made of steel and DURAFIDE® PPS.

Fuel tank cap

Filler cap. For equidistant components, it is recommended to use steel sliding grades to ensure stable sliding. In order to maintain the tightening force under repeated use, M90-44 or M25-44 is recommended. Recently, a capless system 2) that can open the fuel tank cap and directly insert the nozzle for refueling has been adopted. As with the conventional capped system, it is recommended to use various grades of steel and high-rigidity DURAFIDE.

Valves

The fuel tank is equipped with valve parts such as ORVR (Onboard Refueling Vapor Recovery) valves and globe valves. The ORVR valve prevents fuel vapors from being discharged into the atmosphere from the filler port during refueling. The shut-off valve prevents fuel from flowing from the fuel tank to the outside when the vehicle rolls over.

Both parts are recommended to use standard steel grade products (M90-44) with good mechanical properties and excellent assemblability (fastening, welding). Recent trends in fuel-based components listed here include controller-integrated fuel pump modules and brushless fuel pumps. All of these technologies can achieve power saving. In order to contribute to this goal, the company is also actively providing materials and promoting technology research and development.
