PowinEnergy purchases 1.85GWh lithium iron phosphate batteries core from CATL for energy storage systems

As the energy storage industry matures, the shortage of high-quality lithium-ion batteries will likely become a challenge in the industry. PowinEnergy is taking proactive measures to reduce this risk through strategic cooperation agreements to ensure supply.

Recently, PowinEnergy announced the signing of a battery supply contract with CATL. The former will purchase 1.85GWh batteries from the latter, mainly batteries of lithium iron phosphate batteries. These batteries will be integrated into PowinEnergy's latest model of battery energy storage System Stack225. The cooperation between the two parties will ensure that Powin Energy products are competitively priced, and at the same time, they will be able to obtain battery supply from first-tier suppliers such as Ningde Times by 2022.

In addition to the CATL, PowinEnergy also signed supply agreements with other suppliers to integrate into other models of the battery energy storage system Stack140 to achieve diversification of the supply chain and product supply.

Founded in 1990 and based in Oregon, PowinEnergy's modular battery system Stack ™ has been deployed in many utility-grade, industrial, commercial, and microgrid applications, including the largest battery energy storage systems in Canada and Mexico. Stack ™ uses Powinbp-OS, an advanced battery pack operating system. This system has industry-leading battery system monitoring, balancing, and control functions, and has flexibility in selecting battery specifications and suppliers to ensure PowinEnergy can provide the most on the market. Competitive and most suitable battery energy storage system.

Since the establishment of CATL in 2011, energy storage has been identified as one of the company's business developments. In that year, it participated in the Zhangbei Wind Power Storage and Transmission Demonstration Project of the State Grid.

Huang Shilin, vice chairman of CATL, said that the company's current energy storage system business includes batteries, modules, electrical boxes and battery cabinets. Lithium iron phosphate is mainly used as the positive electrode material. The products are mainly square batteries. The products are used in power generation, transmission and distribution, and power applications. They cover large-scale solar or wind power generation and storage facilities, industrial enterprise energy storage, commercial buildings and data center storage. Energy, energy storage charging station, communication base station backup battery, etc.
