PPG ’s windshield, as a key component of the NTT INDYCAR® SERIES ’series Aeroscreen assembly, provides protection for the cockpit

PPG's windshield was officially unveiled as a key component of the NTT INDYCAR® SERIES ’series Aeroscreen assembly.

Aeroscreen was developed by Red Bull Advanced Technologies. It was first evaluated in October 2019 and has been tested several times. Recently, at the Firestone Grand Prix in St. Petersburg, Florida, the component will appear on all participating cars. INDYCAR uses this innovative safety component to reduce the risk of pilot injury when flying debris or other objects hit the cockpit.

Aeroscreen is composed of PPG polycarbonate laminated flight windshield and is connected to the titanium frame produced by Pankl. The entire Aeroscreen assembly can be installed on or removed from NTT INDYCAR SERIES series cars in less than 15 minutes.

The PPG windshield includes an internal anti-reflective coating and an anti-fog device with integral heating elements. In addition, there are up to 8 external tearable objects that can be removed when the station is stopped if the windshield is dirty. The windshield weighs 7.8kg and can withstand a two-pound (approximately 0.9kg) object at a speed of over 220mi / h (approximately 352km / h).

Pankl's titanium frame weighs 12.6kg and can withstand a force equivalent to 15,422kg (17 tons).
