Rheinmetall`s environmental protection steam pump order set a new record, with a total order exceeding 1 billion euros

With the newly signed order of more than 350 million euros, the newly developed electronic steam pump (fuel evaporative emission control system) for the fuel tank system developed by the Rheinmetall Automotive business unit has set a new record. Three internationally renowned automakers have ordered this innovative component that debuted on the market in the summer of 2018. The cars they produce will be sold in markets such as the North American Free Trade Zone, Japan and China. Last year, the order value of this product has exceeded 700 million euros, which means that with the addition of new orders, the order for this environmental protection system product during the delivery cycle has exceeded the 1 billion euro mark, and this achievement It only took two years for the product to be officially launched.

The components developed by Pierburg GmbH in Neuss will wash the activated carbon shell when there is a lack of negative pressure in the intake cycle, and are especially suitable for new generation engines such as hybrid vehicle engines or direct injection engines. Currently, Pierburg is producing electronic steam pumps at its production bases in Fontine, South Carolina, and in Shanghai, focusing on implementing the company's largest project ever.

Nowadays, strict regulations not only regulate the emissions of internal combustion engine vehicles, but also impose strict limits on the emissions of fuel storage in these vehicles. In order to comply with the limit regulations, when the motor is stopped or during electric operation, the activated carbon container can collect fuel vapors and adsorb them for as long as possible until the fuel vapors are completely burned in the engine. However, due to the limited capacity of the container to store hydrocarbons, this space area needs to be "flushed" with fresh air regularly by the electronic steam pump.

These new pumps can operate normally at high flux and low pressure. With the innovative cooling of electronic equipment, the thermal resistance of the pump is improved. This ensures that the pump can operate reliably even under adverse conditions in the engine compartment. In addition, the pump is equipped with an integrated pressure sensor, which can report system pressure information to the vehicle control unit.
