ROTH develops a new hydrogen tank filament winding production process system

The German ROTH Composites Machinery Company has provided a technically enhanced filament winding system for the production of hydrogen tanks.

Type IV hydrogen pressure tank consists of a thermoplastic inner container, also called a gasket, which is reinforced by fibers during the filament winding process to achieve the necessary pressure stability. The hydrogen tank is characterized by low weight and high safety, making it suitable for many mobile applications.

The new filament winding system with three spindles, like every system, is planned and designed to precisely meet the customer's application requirements.

"The combination of the powerful drive concept and the new machine frame structure increases the performance of the equipment by approximately 40% compared to the international technical level." Dr. Andreas-Ryman, general manager of ROTH Composites Machinery, Ross's machine has five interpolating axes and five additional CNC programmable axes. The equipment is suitable for both mass production and development-in each case, the traditional wet winding process is used.

The impregnation station on the move can separate and use each spindle separately to avoid unnecessary resin consumption. The scraper controlled by the numerical control system can accurately and repeatably set the resin gap. The equipment is suitable for processing carbon fiber and glass fiber, and reduces the roving stress by reducing the wrap angle. The uniform yarn take-off speed can reach 4.5 m/s. With this machine, it can be easily converted to tow winding process.

By using ROTH RCA (automatic bundling and cutting of fibers), the degree of automation of the machine can be increased. For example, for the winding of pressure vessels, in addition to other functions, the device also has an automatic pressurization and measurement system, which can establish and adjust the necessary internal pressure of the gasket during the winding process. The extremely high machine rigidity minimizes the mechanical influence during the manufacturing process and ensures maximum precision during the filament winding process.
